Lord, Bow Thine Ear
To Our Prayer

EDITOR’S NOTE:

This piece appears at the beginning of Mendelssohn’s oratorio “Elijah.” It is scored for Soprano I and Soprano II duet with SATB chorus providing the repeated invocation “Lord, bow thine ear to our prayer.”

The transcription here for treble choir was done with strict adherence to the original publisher’s dynamic markings and the composer’s own piano reduction and tempo indication. The duet is passed between the voices to create interest in this SSAA configuration. Care has been given to assign these lines in a way consistent with the dynamic rise and fall of the duet and the chorus refrain.

The composer’s orchestration can be used with this edition. The full score and parts are available on IMSLP.org

Lord, bow thine ear to our prayer.

And there is neither help nor comfort.
